Admissions

We have a large proportion of children who do not live in the catchment area of our school. Many parents choose to send their children to Beckwithshaw because it is a small school with excellent adult to child ratios.

The local education authority sets our admissions policy and allocates places.  Please visit the website below for information on how places are allocated or phone 01609 534527 for detailed information about admissions.

Children are legally required to start school full-time the term after their fifth birthday.  Children are admitted in one intake in September.

The children are taught in three classes:

Class 1        Foundation Stage & Year 1

Class 2        Years 2 & 3

Class 3        Years 4, 5 & 6

You will receive a Guide for parents from NYCC, Children and Young People’s Service, in the academic year before your child is due to start school. This will tell you all you have to do.  All admissions are now handled on line and it is imperative that you submit your application in line with the deadlines set each year by the admissions authority.  If you need help accessing a computer to apply online or you prefer a paper copy of the application either in English or an alternative language / Braille please telephone 01609 780780.
